5 Things I Like About Scrivener
I have been using Scrivener for for my writing for about 2 years now. In case there is anyone who hasn’t heard of Scrivener, it is a powerful program where you can outline, write and compile any long piece of writing. It provides everything you need to write you manuscript, all neatly packaged in one place. I am still not using the majority of the functions because I definitely need to learn more. It is not free but is available for a very reasonable one off cost. Unfortunately it is not cloud based which I would prefer but……
Here are some of the things I really like about the program:
Everything in one place. With Scrivener, as you are doing your research you can add files and links to the research section so that you can get to them with one click.
Split Screen. You can view two windows at once by splitting the screen. For example, you could have your plan open in one window and the section you are writing open in the other window. Or you might like to have a picture open so that you can refer to it as you describe it in your writing.
Drag and Drop to move sections. Sometimes when writing I am not sure where a particular scene or section should go. In Scrivener you can simply drag sections to the position you want them.
Notes Section. In the left hand column there is a section for adding notes. So for example you need to know the exact year or month you can add it to the notes. Very helpful for a chronological history. Or you could add notes about what you still need to research, rather than getting distracted whilst you are writing.
Free Trial. As I said the program is not free but you can get a free trial for 30 days. But, unlike most free trials, it only counts days fo use. So if you only use it every second day for example, it lasts for 60 days.
